Yoobao 10000mAh Portable Charger Review
The Yoobao 10000mAh Portable Charger stands up well against the competition in the crowded 10000mAh power category. Apple fans take note – the Yoobao comes with an additional lightning input port so you can cut down on the number of cables in your life! Smart looks, aluminum construction and fast charge times all add up to solid offerings from Chinese manufacturer Yoobao.
Capacity & charging speed
The Yoobao 10000mAh Portable Charger packs a very useable amount of power into a relatively compact and lightweight chassis. As a guideline, this power bank will recharge an iPhone 6s around about 3.6 times. Yoobao is clearly targeting Apple fans, as the unit comes with lightning and micro-USB input ports – not a feature we’ve seen much of before. This is certainly a handy feature for all you Apple-only consumers – as it means you don’t need to lug around an extra micro-USB cable.
Charging speeds are also pleasingly speedy, as the Yoobao 10000mAh Portable Charger features 2A input and 2.1A maximum output. This is important with a power bank of this capacity, as you do not want to be waiting around too long to transfer all that juice! There certainly are faster charging power banks out there in this power range, but the Yoobao is no slouch. And for the price, it certainly represents good value.
The Yoobao does only come with one USB output port – for a 10000mAh power bank, we certainly would have liked to see two. We were also disappointed to find that we were unable to plug the Yoobao into the wall to charge, whilst also charging a phone or tablet. The unit would be charging a device perfectly, but as soon as we plugged it into the wall it stopped working. Not ideal.
Look and feel
The Yoobao 10000mAh Portable Charger is quite a smart looking unit. Just like their 5200mAh power bank, the 10000mAh model has a rounded aluminum body. This makes it easy to grip and sit comfortably in your hand.
It comes in a range of 6 colors from the grey unit we tested to brighter, candy-flavored hues. The Yoobao logo is etched into the metal at the bottom end of the unit. At the top edge, you will find the dual lightning/micro-USB inputs, USB output, power button, and four blue LED lights to indicate the charge level.
Durability & construction
The Yoobao 10000mAh Portable Charger feels solid and well constructed. We like that they’ve used aluminum, which is strong and also lightweight. There is no flex in the power bank, and the plastic ends of the unit join seamlessly with the main aluminum body. Yoobao also offers its customers a 12-month factory warranty.
The input and output ports seem well made, however, the power button did feel a little bit sticky. It somewhat difficult to press as it sits flush with the body, and just felt a tad unresponsive when we turned the unit on. As mentioned previously we were also disappointed to find that the power bank would not simultaneously charge and recharge (as claimed by Yoobao).
Sized at 4.7 x 0.6 x 2.7 inches, the Yoobao 10000mAh Portable Charger will fit into your hand (check the images at the top of this review). For a 10000mAh power bank, the Yoobao is somewhere towards the smaller end of the size scale compared to its competitors. It has a tall, slim shape which makes it pretty flexible in terms of storage options. At a stretch, it will fit into a deep trouser pocket, and would slot into a reasonably sized purse.
At 7.7 ounces, the Yoobao 10000mAh Portable Charger is not exactly a featherweight. But it is actually lighter than most of the competition in its power category. All up, it delivers a good amount of power for its size and weight.
