RAVPower 26800mAh Review
If you’re looking for a high capacity power bank to keep your devices going at all times without worrying about having to recharge it so often, and not going bankrupt in the process, then the RAVPower Xtreme 26800mAh could be the right fit. Powerful, fast, and high-quality are some of the terms linked to this power bank, so with this review, you’ll know so much more about it before you make a purchase.
Capacity & Charging speed
The RAVPower 26800mAh guarantees that you’ll be able to power your devices several times. Being a large power bank in terms of capacity, it is perfect not only for traveling or being on the go but also for emergencies, such as blackouts.
In case you don’t know, the real capacity in any power bank will always be less than the one the manufacturer advertises, so the RAVPower 26800mAh has an actual capacity of 23000mAh, which is 85% of its advertised capacity. With such capacity, this power bank is still powerful enough to charge any smartphone at least once a day for more than a whole week before needing a recharge. To give you a clear picture, it’s capable of charging the iPhone X more than 8 times, the iPad mini 5 almost 5 times, and even a MacBook Pro 1.2 times, although an adapter is needed.
Despite not having Qualcomm Quick Charge, it does come with the iSmart 2.0 charging technology to deliver very fast charging and a maximum output of 5.5A. With three USB ports of 2.4A each, the RAVPower 26800mAh has the ability to charge not one or two, but three devices at once. No matter if two ports are being used at once, unlike other power banks, the RAVPower 26800mAh will not diminish the maximum charging speed (2.4A) for the other port to function. However, while it’s charging three devices at the same time, each USB port will operate at 2.4A, 2.1A, and 1A, respectively, meaning that it could take longer to charge the other two devices
One area in which there’s room for improvement is in the recharging speed department. The RAVPower 26800mAh features a single USB input port that operates at 5V/2.1A, so it recharges in 14 or 15 hours with a 2.1A charger or up to 31 hours with a 1A charger. Therefore, this model has a considerable disadvantage over newer models such as the USB C Portable Charger RAVPower 26800mAh Dual Input Port, which packs the same power but takes almost half the time to recharge. However, considering how much power this power bank can pack and how long it can last on average, 15 hours does not seem a crazy number.
Pass-through charging is allowed by this power bank, which means that you can recharge it while it is charging another device at the same time. However, it could deplete itself first given that it recharges at a slower speed than the one it delivers. Besides, doing this is not suggested as it will reduce the battery lifespan of the power bank and cause damage to your device as well.
Look and feel
The overall design of the RAVPower 26800mAh is reminiscent of Anker power banks, which are needless to say, well-built. The majority of RAVPower products stand out because they’re functional rather than the most stylish of the market, but the good thing about this particular model is that it comes in four different colors to choose from: traditional black, red, white and blue.
Its three-piece body is rectangular with slightly curved edges and corners, and it is made of a plastic that doesn’t feel cheap. Its matte and smooth surface is also resistant to scratches, so this way, you can be confident that it won’t look shabby after a few days.
On the front, you can find the Micro-USB input port, and each port has been labeled with the iSmart 2.0 technology. However, some models come with the three different output amperages labeled below each port. This means that you should know at which speed your devices operate so you can plug it into the right port. More information is found on the technical specifications label located on the bottom of the power bank.
On the top, the power button and the 4 LED blue indicator are in the bottom right corner of the power bank. If you want to know how much power is left, turn on the lights by pressing the power button. Another good thing about this design is that the lights will turn off during charging to conserve power, but you can still press the power button to check how much charge has acquired.
Lastly, the RAVPower 26800mAh comes with a very handy protective pouch that looks like a mesh, and it is cushioned in the inside.
Durability & Construction
On the outside, the RAVPower 26800mAh looks robust and well-built. Despite being made of plastic, it holds quite well against scratches and drops. However, due to its heavy weight, a big fall can cause severe damage to its case, and its internal components as well.
The ports are sturdy, so you can feel that they hold the cables firmly to prevent them from falling out. Besides, the power button works well doesn’t get easily activated, which could lead to turning on the LED lights and losing battery as a result.
On the inside, the RAVPower 26800mAh contains A Grade Lithium batteries and it is equipped with iSmart 2.0 technology that ensures 10 types of protections, including high-temperature, over-discharge, surge current, surge voltage, over current, EMF, overcharge, reverse connection, safe rest mechanism, and sort circuit.
Both the external and internal components are in line with RavPower’s claims: the RAVPower 26800mAh is highly durable, constructed with premium materials to ensure optimal rechargers to your devices for a long time. In case, any malfunction occurs, your RAVPower 26800mAhis will be backed up by an 18-month warranty.
At 6.8 inches long, 3.2 inches wide, and 0.9 inches thick, the RAVPower 26800mAh is certainly large, but it can still be held in one hand. With a weight of a 16 ounzes/400 gr, you will definitely get tired of carrying such a heavy power bank around, so one thing to be clear: the RAVPower 26800mAh is not meant to be used during an exercise class or a jog; it’s better to place it inside a backpack or bag.
On the other hand, the RAVPower 26800mAh is perfect to be taken for long trips, especially in those where you don’t have easy access to power outlets, like at the beach or hiking and camping trips. Although the RAVPower 26800mAh has a colossal capacity, you can still take it aboard a commercial flight given that at 99.6Wh, it is permitted by the FAA and TSA.
All in all, the great majority of high-capacity power banks are quite heavy and less compact than regular power banks, and the RAVPower 26800mAh is no exception. However, this doesn’t mean that you’ll be getting a brick that you can’t carry around.
High capacity that can last for more than a week
3 USB output ports
High-speed recharging for its size
Bulky and heavy
No USB-C port
Up to 15 hours to fully recharge
If you’re looking for an on-the-go power bank for extending the battery of your cellphone until you get home, surely there are lighter and smaller power banks in the market. However, if what you need is a high capacity power bank to charge multiple devices at once, a fast speed, and without needing to have it stuck on the wall for days, then the RAVPower 26800mAh comes as an affordable and reliable alternative to other more expensive power banks of the same capacity.
