Capacity & Charging speed

The Jackery Bar 6000 mAh External Battery Charger is at a fairly convenient capacity for most people. In terms of price, size and capacity, most casual phone users will find it quite appealing. Most cell phones being in the 2000-3000mAh range, you could bet on at least a couple of charges when out and about.

So besides a couple of reports of faulty batteries, the Panasonic Li-ion cells perform extremely well. On top of this, the Jackery Bar 6000 mAh External Battery Charger provides 2.1A charge speed through its single USB port. That’s about as fast as it gets in the power bank game!

It’ll handle 1A of current when charging the power bank itself. This means you’ll be waiting up to around 6-7 hours for the unit to fully charge. This is assuming you are using your a decent USB wall charger and not a laptop or PCs USB port. Oh, and like most of the external battery chargers on the market, the wall adapter is not included.

It’s smart enough to turn itself off once you’ve fully charged your phone and you’ll want to keep it charged at least once a month to extend its life. It’s also one of those devices that doesn’t have an automatic power on. This means that you’ll need to turn it on via it’s power button once your plugged in.

Look and feel

So we do love the look of Jackery’s products but somehow this one didn’t feel quite as nice. Some of the finishing touches just weren’t there on this unit. On closer inspection, some of the components look a little roughly designed compared to other units.

For example, on the Jackery Bar 6000 mAh External Battery Charger, the USB ports are directly above each other. Although this doesn’t cause any issues with the rather cheap looking micro USB cable that comes with the product, any USB cable with bulkier ends will struggle to fit in at the same time. This is only really an issue when you are charging the Jackery and your chosen device at the same time. Regardless, it’s still an oversight.

It still has the sexy, orange aluminium shell of old and also comes in both black and silver. To turn the LED light on and off, just press the power button twice. The Jackery Bar 6000 mAh External Battery Charger uses 2 LED lights as its torch but it’s a little underwhelming and would only be useful in a bind. The LED battery indicator lights are bright and pretty hard to miss.

Durability & Construction

The Jackery Bar 6000 mAh External Battery Charger is well made and comes with a range of protection failsafes to safeguard your device. Apart from a few defective batteries, you can be pretty confident that your Jackery isn’t going to blow up or melt on you!

The joins of the plastic and aluminium look pretty sound in typical Jackery style. However, those oddly placed USB ports that we talked about before might cause you even more problems. Structurally speaking, the only issue we found was the classic “USB port falls into the case” issue. We’d love to see a bit more quality control in cases such as this, especially looking at the quality of internal components used.

We also read about some issues with older iPhones using newer iOS versions. Apparently, from the iPhone 5 down, iOS 7 has some compatibility issues. This isn’t exactly Jackery’s fault but can affect those using older iPhones with updated software.

Size wise the Jackery will easily fit into your pocket. It’s a little thicker and stubbier than other units but is only a touch bigger than competitors in the 5000-5600 range. The aluminium case which provides rigidity does add a little extra weight but nothing that seems unnatural. All in all we’re pretty happy with the shape and size.
