Capacity & Charging speed

Relatively new to the power bank game, Dulla was founded in 2015 by a group of employees at Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. The brand has been on our radar for a while, so we decided it was time to check out their products. We chose to kick off with the Dulla M50000 12000mAh Power Bank.

Rated at 12000mAh the Dulla will give you a very useable amount of power on the go. As a guide, it will recharge the iPhone 6s 4.3 times. We found to fully charge the unit took around about 7 hours – this is not the fastest on the market, but is still pretty fair. It also holds its charge for a pleasingly long amount of time.

It features dual USB outputs, each rated at 2.4A. These charge your device at a great speed, but we have to say it doesn’t quite live up to the speeds claimed by Dulla. This can be affected by USB cable and of course the device you are charging.

It also sports intelligent power manage IC – Dulla’s jargon which means that it will charge your devices safely, and protect them from short circuits and other nasty surprises. Dulla also claims universal compatibility for USB charging phones and tablets – it happily charged everything we threw at it.

How many times will the Dulla M50000 12000mAh Power Bank charge my device?

Look and feel

The Dulla M50000 12000mAh Power Bank scores well in the looks department. It comes in four color options, which have a really nice subtle, sparkly effect when light reflects against it. (If you own a gold iPhone, then the gold Dulla M50000 12000mAh Power Bank would compliment your phone very nicely!) It has a quite premium look to it, which belies its modest price tag.

We also really like the slim profile of the Dulla, and its smooth beveled edges. The aluminium body should provide great protection, plus helps to keep the weight down. Unlike many other power banks, the Dulla does not have a slippery surface, so you won’t be dropping it any time soon!

It also comes with an LED torch which is moderately bright. A somewhat unnecessary feature that power bank manufactures seems to be including frequently these days.

Finally, and this is a super-minor gripe, the LED lights whilst charging are very bright. This will become very noticeable if you plug it in to charge overnight.

Durability & Construction

The fit and finish of the Dulla M50000 12000mAh Power Bank seem tip-top. The power button has a nice weight to it, and the input and output ports look well made. As mentioned earlier, the body is constructed of aluminium which should help protect it from the inevitable bumps and knocks that any portable device has to endure.

Overall the Dulla has gotten really positive reviews, but we have read of some instances where there’s been some issues with build quality. As well as faulty USB cables being shipped. To their credit, it seems Dulla has provided really great follow-up customer service in the majority of these cases, and sent replacement devices. This, plus the fact that it comes with an 18-month warranty is reassuring.

We should also point out that the user’s manual is hilariously confusing. Dulla is a Chinese company, and they probably need to have a word to whoever translated the manual to English. The main confusion lies with their explanation as to the four LEDs which indicate the device’s charge level. To clarify for our readers now – each LED light represents 25% charged capacity.

Portability

One of the best features of the Dulla M50000 12000mAh Power Bank is its slim footprint. It measures slightly taller and wider than an iPhone 6s, but it is actually very flat for its size. (This is principally due to Dulla opting to use a lithium-polymer battery).

That makes it very practical when it comes to storing it whilst on the move. For instance it will happily fit into a man’s jeans or cargo shorts pocket. Similarly, it will slip into a medium-sized purse or laptop sleeve.

At 9 ounces there are certainly lighter power banks on the market, but for this power level it is pretty reasonable. All in all, they’ve designed it quite intelligently, to maximize its portability for its size and weight.

There's a lot to like about the Dulla M50000 12000mAh Power Bank. It looks great, particularly in gold, or rose gold. Its slim, aluminium body makes it quite portable and easy to transport. Plus an 18 month warranty helps ease the mind. But on the flip side there are other power banks and portable chargers that do offer quicker charging times. There are also slightly better value models available from competitors.
