Clutch 2300mAh Ultra-Thin power bank review
At first glance, the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank seems like a small, light and easily portable power bank, and while this is true, it has so much more to offer, such as a 2300mAh capacity and a built-in charging cord. Clutch is currently a one-product company that focuses on providing iPhone owners an extra charge so they don’t run out of battery. So if you are an iPhone user who happens to value portability and comfort, then keep reading this review.
The first thing you need to know about the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank is that it’ meant to be compatible with iPhones, so if you have an Android smartphone, then this power bank is not for you. This is immediately noticeable as the device features a lightning output, which is a trademark trait of Apple.
In fact, it works on the following devices: iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, 6 Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8Plus, X, XS, XS Max, X, 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max.
Secondly, its true capacity is close to 1600mAh, so don’t expect the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank to replenish your iPhone’s battery fully. If you use your phone a lot, it’s common that by the late afternoon your battery is almost dead, so this power bank is great as it will provide enough power to get you through the day.
In this sense, it can charge the iPhone 7 up to 81%, the iPhone 8 up to 87%, the iPhone X up to 60%, and the iPhone 11 slightly more than 50% of its total battery capacity.
The company claims that the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank features High-Speed Charging Capability but at the same time a 5V/1A speed appears on its technical specifications. The bottom line is that it takes around 50 minutes to charge the iPhone 11 Pro up about 30%, and thus the charging speed is acceptable.
As for the ports it has, the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank features a single attached charging cable with the Apple iPhone Lightning connector, meaning that you can charge one iPhone at a time. It would have been good if the power bank came with and additional output, but then it wouldn’t have turned out as portable as it is. As for the input, it features a 5V/2A Micro USB port.
On the downside, due to its small capacity, it will run out of juice quickly, thus you’ll find yourself having to recharge it quite often. Nonetheless, it won’t take more than 2 hours to recharge with a 5V/2A power adapter, so the wait is not as long as with other power banks.
The company advertises the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank as the thinnest power bank on the market, and it’s impossible to argue against it. Its design measures just 3 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 0.1 inches thick, meaning its size is almost the same as a credit card and its thickness the equivalent of three credit cards put together.
Along with a small size, the Clutch Ultra-Thin Portable Charger weighs less than any other power bank. At just 1.7 ounces, it’s extremely light and compact, fitting perfectly in the palm of your hand, and taking no room in your wallet or purse so that you can power your iPhone anywhere, anytime.
Besides, its small capacity makes it convenient to take on a commercial flight. The power bank is 8.51Wh, considerably below the 100Wh limit set by the TSA, so you don’t have t worry about having it confiscated by the airport security, or requesting permission from the airline beforehand.
Look and feel
The one thing that stands out form the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank is its sleek design. It’s only available in a black matte finish that makes the power bank comfortable to hold in your hand and prevent smudges. It has a rectangular shape and smooth edges with very few details, being the brand name (placed on the top) the most prominent one.
The Micro USB port is located on the left side, while the built-in lightning cable is stored on the right corner. This cable is easy to pull out and is firmly attached to the body thanks to the cable plug. Surprisingly, when the cable is being used, you’ll see that the power bank loses its top right corner, giving it an edgier look.
There’s also a small red LED on the side that blinks to indicate the amount of charge remaining and remains on when it’s fully charged.
Durability & build quality
The Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank is made of premium materials, high-quality chips, and hardware. It features lithium-ion batteries encased in metal for increased durability. It also comes with Intelligent Current Control for Device Protection against common charging problems. It’s also approved by FCC, CE, CCC, Rohs, and it’s UN 2056 Certified.
The problem of power banks with built-in cables, however, is that they tend to last less than regular power banks because the built-in cords are fragile and start to fray after some time. The same can be said about the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank, whose thin cable might not hold up well after a while.
Another aspect that makes us question its longterm durability is the fact that ist metal casing gets warm while charging, which might cause damage to its internal battery. However, it’s the same metal casing that makes it sturdy and grants protection against drops.

Even though it won’t recharge your cellphone entirely, the Clutch Ultra-Thin Power Bank works as the perfect backup charging solution for going out and extending the battery life of your iPhone for a couple of hours before you find access to a power outlet. All in all, if portability is what you’re looking for, then it’s practically impossible to find a better power bank than this one.
