Anker Powerhouse 200 Review

Anker’s PowerHouse 200 57600mAh/218.8Wh is a convenient generator you can take with you on trips, like fishing, camping, etc. You won’t have to worry about losing power for your devices because the huge 57600mAh capacity battery provides ample amounts of juice. It also comes loaded with safety features, so you won’t have to worry about it damaging the generator or any connected devices.  You can even use solar energy for charging it.

Charging technology

Charging times vary, depending on the source of power. When using the AC adapter, it will take 6.5 hours to replenish the Anker PowerHouse 200 57600mAh generator. A 30W PD (Power Delivery) wall charger will take 8 hours and using a 60W PD wall charger will take 4.5 hours. It also supports solar power-up, but it requires a solar charger of 5-22V along with a 5.5×2.1 mm DC output. The higher the voltage, the quicker the charge will be.

This small power generator can only perform pass-through charging when it’s connected via a car charge output or AC outlet. If devices that are connected to the generator are higher than the input then it will not recharge itself. It can also re-power gadgets via USB-C, USB-A (PowerIQ+ charging from Anker), 3-prong AC plug, and a 12V vehicle charger. The generator can also charge multiple connected devices at the same time. It’s not possible for PoweHouse 200 to charge devices connected to USB ports when the generator is already in the process of recharging itself. It can only provide power to connected gadgets if they’re connected via AC port or car charger port. It can provide power to PD or USB-C devices quicker when it’s using the PD port. A normal charging speed is only offered to devices connected to USB-A ports.

Other Anker power banks can replenish the PowerHouse 200 generator, but it will need to be connected to the AC adapter or USB-C port. So, overall, there are a variety of different methods the owner can take to charge the generator, which is an added bonus.

The 12V vehicle adapter has a maximum output of 5A, and while the AC output 110V has a maximum output of 100W, it can switch from 50Hz and 60Hz. USB-C PD port has an output of 30W.

It also has compatibility support for USB-C MacBooks/ iPad, iPhone 8/X/XS/XS Max/XR, Android smartphones/tables, along with other gadgets that have USB-C. However, there is no high speed charing for MacBook Pro, Samsung W700, Lumia 950, or Motorola/Force Droid Edition. If the Nintendo Switch is connected via HDMI, it will not be able to charge.

PowerHouse 200 has a huge load of power, recharging electronics multiple times. It can replenish the MacBook Pro 3 times or more, and over 12 times for smartphones. A mini-fridge can be charged 4+ times and it can provide up to 50+ hours of power for lamps (Up to 5W).

PowerHouse 200 generator is a small, portable device, measuring 7.5” x 5.5” x 4.7” and weighing six pounds. It can fit into a compact space, like a desk drawer or inside a trunk very easily, making it accessible.

Compared to similar products, like power banks and small power generators, the PowerHouse 200 is a bit on the heavier side in terms of weight and smaller in terms of size.

It’s not recommended to attempt to take this aboard a plane with you. Anker’s Powerhouse 200 generator is not safe to take on flights. Measuring 218.8Wh, it far exceeds the 100Wh limit set by the TSA.

Look and feel

Anker’s PowerHouse 200 generator is made of a combination of aluminum, plastic and rubber materials. Most of the generator is blanketed by two parts of an aluminum shell. Rubberized caps can be found on the front and back, in a frame-like shape. There are only a few screws located on the sides, but otherwise, it’s just bare. On the back of the generator, there is a large vent inside the rubber panel for heat exhaust. It also has an AC input in a circular shape at the top, solely for charging.

Every output on the generator can be found on the front, fixed on a plastic surrounding that blends in with the rubber cap. The 12V DC car charger, two Type-A ports, one Type-C port, and the AC outlet are all settled just below the monochrome LCD display. The screen lets you know how much power capacity is left in percentage and will also display which ports are activated. However, if the battery is not used, it will drain over long periods of time. A button above each group controls which device gets charged.

The handle, located at the top of the generator, is made of flexible plastic and has the provided strength/support to lift the battery quite easily. This generator only comes in one color, black.

Durability & build quality

Normally, when using the generator, you would probably worry about overheating since it has a 130W limit. Thankfully, it won’t be problematic since it shuts itself off automatically when it senses you’re over the power capabilities, keeping your devices and the PowerHousee 200 safe.

There is an abundant amount of safety features added to it, as well. Those include input/output high voltage protection, input/output current regulation, automatic current matching, input/output-short circuit protection, static resistance, over-discharge protection, and finally, output temperature control.

If your generator has a defect of some sort or it does not work as expected, you don’t have to worry too much about it since it’s covered. The PowerHouse 200 generator comes with an 18-month, warranty with customer support.

With its high capacity of 57600mAh/218.8Wh, it provides a lot of battery power for your smartphones/tablets/laptops and more. The AC outlet, USB-C, Type-A ports and vehicle charge all offer a lot of room to consistently charge your devices.
